Inspecting Your HVAC

Here in the Arkansas area, we are currently in the midst of a season change. With this change comes an increase in temperature outside, thus our HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems are starting to work overtime. This constant use of our heating and air conditioning systems brings upon a good time to inspect and ensure they are working properly.
One of the first things to inspect when it comes to your HVAC unit is the drain pan. This is designed to collect water that results from the air conditioning process. Unfortunately, drain pans can fail. You should always check to ensure there are no holes or cracks in the pan itself. If these are present, water will be able to leak out and either pool at the bottom or fall throughout the interior. This could cause excess damage.
Another crucial part of your HVAC unit to inspect is the drain line. The drain line is used as an exit route for excess moisture produced by the unit. You should always check this line for damage or clogs. Clogs, specifically are very prevalent when it comes to HVAC drain lines. When clogs occur, water will quickly back up the line and drain into the drain pan. The pan will eventually fill and begin to overflow, which can cause extensive water damage.
When properly maintained, your HVAC system provides a comfortable indoor environment, despite the weather outside.
